Omar Sheira is a researcher and artist who is passionate about the history of Cairo. He started exploring the Old City nearly two years ago and regularly visits the monuments built throughout Egypt’s different eras by governors, caliphs, sultans, emirs, beys, and pashas to capture their beauty.

Day 1Arrival

Upon your arrival you will be escorted to your hotel for a smooth check-in

Day 2Ancient Cairo

We start the tour at the dramatic Giza plateau, where we see the unrivaled pyramids of the ancient world. There, we learn about the ancient city of Memphis and its strategic importance, and then head to the world’s oldest complete stone building complex in Sakkara. We end the day in the Egyptian Museum, among the stories and treasures of the kings, queens, and nobles of ancient Egypt.

Day 3The Roman & Arab Era

We start the tour at the dramatic Giza plateau, where we see the unrivaled pyramids of the ancient world. Day 4The Mamluk Amirs

This tour starts in a zenith of power in Egyptian history. We will walk through the vibrant street of Bab al-Wazeer (The Vizier’s Gate) and see some of the structures that were commissioned by the amirs of the Mamluk sultanate. On the tour, we will also have the chance to visit an old Mamluk house, an Ottoman market place, and the world’s oldest university, al-Azhar Mosq.

Day 5Alexandria

We then take a short break from Cairo to go back in time and visit the city founded by Alexander the Great. Here we pass by the modern-day Library of Alexandria and then see what is left of the ancient city. On this tour, we will see the great Pompeii Pillar and go underground into the Qom al-Shoqafa Catacombs. We will also visit the Fortress of the powerful Mamluk Sultan Qaitbay.

Day 6Ottoman Splendor

On the final day, we will visit Ottoman Manial Palace of Prince Muhammad Ali. Each part of the palace is a work of art, skillfully blending advanced Ottoman craftsmanship with Mamluk, Turkish, and European art. From here, we will visit the Nilometer and finally, the downtown area, for a brief walk that shows the influence of European architecture on the buildings of Cairo.
